Up until a few years ago. We were often approached by clients requesting additional living space for elderly loved ones. Lovingly referred to as "Granny Flats".
However, what seems to be the norm nowadays is requesting additional living space for younger members of the family.
With reportedly an increase of 25 - 35 year olds and above still living at home. Often having children of their own.
And property prices are at a premium with often annual incomes not reflecting this increase. This is pushing the family homes to almost bursting point in some cases.
So a lot of you are looking for alternatives to offer the younger generation their own independence.
Extensions are a good solution to this but can often prove expensive and timely regarding planning permissions.
So a garden room is the direction people are choosing as a cheaper alternative.
A build of up to 30sqm can be installed under current permitted development so no planning permission is required in a majority of situations. However you would need building regs passed by your local authorities if you are having water/ plumbing to your garden room and someone will be sleeping there on a regular basis. This is usually an easy process to apply for. And a reputable garden room company can guide you in this process.
We at J.A.M Garden Rooms have completed several of these types of installations now. And expect a lot more in the future.
